F-16 Vs JF-17 Turn-Rate Comparison.
PLEASE READ:
This clip is not intended to show if the JF-17 out-turns the F-16, but is a brief turn-rate comparison between the two. (JF-17 is the first fighter that is being made by two Air-Forces i.e. the Chinese Air Force (PLAAF) and the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
The F-16s complete a full 360 degree
turn within 1400 feet. The JF-17s
flying on the National Day Parade
were SBP Aicrafts (Small Batch Production,
closer to Production Aircraft ), they were
not flying as fast as the F-16 and they
have not been cleared to pull 8/9 G turns.
However both the fighter jets were
flying at almost the same altitude
i.e. 500 ft.
Keeping all these factors
in mind, the Thunder didn’t dissapoint
at all!

well the turn rates would turn out to be comparable, if you look closer the f 16 has a much better angle of attack (exactly 25 degrees, i looked it up).
that means if its behind another aircraft in a dogfight it can keep pointing its nose towards an aircraft with a turning radius of 1400*cos(25) = 1269 feet.
if the turn rates are the same, the jf 17 would have to pull a 1269 feet turn radius or lower to evade an f 16 behind it.

Keep in mind that airshow demonstrations like this one will not show the full capabilities of the aircraft. One, it’s for safety reasons to protect the airshow crowd in case of an accident. And two, no one wants to really show any of the classified capabilities until actual combat.

A lot depends on the pilot’s capabilities. I mean it all goes down to how much G’s he can pull considering the aircraft potential. And I was watching a documentary on the VIPER, even the American pilots were saying that the falcon is so good at sharp turns or maneuvering whatever you may call it, that it can easily bust anyone’s on its way. So what would you make of that, I mean don’t they fly the F-15 Eagle or the F-18 Hornet? But it was quite a compliment for the F-16.

Segregator236: Brother no wonder JF-17 is good, but it has no comparision with the VIPER. What you are seeing in this video is hardly reflecting what the F-16 is capable of when it comes to maneuvering. I personally got a chance to witness the PAF’s F-16 demonstrating on the 6th of Sept at Masroor Air Base some years back. Obviously the falcon came all the way from Sargodha to participate in the air show. And believe me, everybody was enthralled by its performance including the PAF personnels.
